Dance of Torn Papers
One of the most recognized Iranian play, ‘Dance of Torn Papers’ by Mohammad Yaghoubi – is a meta theatrical episodic piece, including 10 short plays that mix realism and surrealism. Each of the episodes takes place in the same hotel room, but revolves around a different relationship.
It was named ‘Best Play’ by the National Critics Association of Iran and received awards for ‘Best Direction’ and ‘Best Play’.
Dance of Torn Papers by Mohammad Yaghoubi and co-directed by Aida Keykhaii and the playwright was presented by NOWADAYS THEATRE company in Toronto, Canada, with two different teams, in two languages: English and Farsi, in order to offer the audience two different choices to watch.
The English performance was performed with diverse actors, such as Chinese, Iraqi, Pakistani, Iranian, Italian and Francophone; It was on stage between October 29th – November 4th, every day at 7:30pm with a matinee at 2pm on November 3rd.
The Farsi performance with Iranian young actors for Farsi community of Toronto, was on stage between November 2nd – 4th, everyday at 5pm. The Farsi-speaking performance was the final theatre project of the acting workshop of NOWADAYS THEATRE instructed by Aida Keykhaii and Mohammad Yaghoubi with selected Iranian workshop participants.

Dance of Torn Papers was a magical show. The flow of the show and the performances were phenomenal. I was impressed by the artistic direction of this theatrical performance. The set design was simple but impressive. I also loved the venue. Kudos to all of you for the great job.
The writing in Dance of Torn Papers was brilliant. I loved the background conversation between husband (writer) and wife (critic) and how it framed the ten plays. The actors were terrific. Congratulations for a wonderful play.
