LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
The NOWADAYS THEATRE Company was founded by first-generation Iranian immigrants in 2016. We have always been interested in creating cross-cultural dialogue and supporting cultural diversity in Canada because we know the importance of preserving what makes us unique; our cultures. Even though we are a long way from our country of origin, our new home accepts and lets us create without making us change. This is why we actively do not support colonial forces that undermine, distort or erase the vital role of Indigenous people in our world.
Land acknowledgments are a stepping stone to honouring broken treaty relationships, and we embrace the theatrical practice of making this small but significant gesture.
“We acknowledge that we are gathered on the traditional territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples, now home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit and Métis people.”
We are grateful to have the opportunity to create and perform on this land.
